Member of Parliament for Delta
Gordon Stanley Corbett

My dad, Gordon Stanley Corbett, volunteered for service (V36239) and was in the Royal Canadian Navy overseas from 1941-1945. He served on many ships - Discovery, Naden, Givenchy and Prince Robert. My dad suffered from “shell shock” or PTSD as they now would refer to this condition. He spent many months in and out of the Veteran's Hospital and as a child I found it hard to understand what was wrong. My mom did her best to raise me under the circumstances and I always knew I was loved by both parents. It was difficult at times, but I always felt proud of dad for wanting to fight for our country and our freedoms. My children learned about their grandpa and what he stood for and they remember with love and appreciation. He passed away in 1999, taking more stories from those war times with him.

The two photos represent my son Graeme (age 12) speaking to a class assembly at Cliff Drive school and a collection of memorabilia my mom had saved.
