MAJOR ROBERT (WITT) LAPPER
I have attached a photo of my father, Major Robert (Witt) Lapper. He joined the army as a member of the Army Reserves in Brandon, Manitoba (his hometown) in the late 1930s. He entered full time service in Brandon, trained in Victoria and went overseas in 1943. He was part of the Canadian Army Third Division (Third Canadian Anti Tank Infantry) force that invaded Europe (Juno Beach) on D-Day in 1944 and fought through Europe to Holland. When the war ended in 1945, he remained in Holland as part of the Army of Occupation until returning to Canada and civilian life in 1946. His love of the west coast, which began during his training in Victoria, led him eventually to relocating here with his family.
