Here in Delta, seniors enrich and contribute greatly to our community, I am thrilled to have eight projects funded through the New Horizons for Seniors Program in North Delta, Ladner and Tsawwassen. Year after year, our government delivers on its promise to create a wide range of opportunities for seniors across Canada so they can participate in meaningful activities that nurture their personal growth and foster community engagement. The NHSP supports projects offered by organizations that make a difference in the lives of seniors and their communities. In total, Delta is receiving $166,660.
Delta recipients are listed below:
Northcrest Care Center- $ 25,000
This funding will go towards renovations to the existing courtyard to offer space for visits in order to support the social participation and inclusion of seniors.
The City of Delta- $ 25,000
The City of Delta will use this funding to facilitate a letter exchange program to support the social participation and inclusion of seniors as we continue to live with COVID-19 in our communities.
Delta Gymnastics Society- $ 25,000
Delta Gymnastics will be renovating their existing recreational center to offer gymnastic classes (Seniors Can Move classes) in order to support the social participation and inclusion of seniors in Delta.
Delta Earthwise Society- $ 22,000
Earthwise society in Tsawwassen will oversee the creation of an accessible garden to support the inclusion of Delta seniors in the Garden Buddies Teaching Garden.
ElderCollege Delta Society- $ 24,660
ElderCollege Delta Society will purchase laptops and software and continue to offer educational services and seminars to empower and promote social participation for Delta seniors during social isolation.
Ladner Lawn B owling Club- $ 15,000
Ladner Lawn Bowling Club will purchase 10 shelters and new LED lights to continue to offer protection for its membership.
Ladner Legion- Branch # 61- $ 25,000
Ladner legion will purchase supplies to build a patio to continue to offer a and clean place for seniors to meet to support social participation in a safe environment.
Tsawwassen's Tunnel Town Curling Club- $ 5,000
The organization will purchase lockers to continue to offer curling in order to support the sport and give seniors a safe space for them to be active and remain safe.
