John C. Grant
John was born in Antigonish, NS on Oct 5,1921. In 1940 he moved to Moncton, NB to train as an aircraft mechanic. He left there in 1942 to join the Navy and served as a stoker on Corvettes until 1945 when the war in Europe ended. He volunteered to serve in the South Pacific and traveled through the Panama Canal enroute to Victoria, BC but by the time they arrived the war in the South Pacific ended. He took his discharge on the west coast and settled in Vancouver. He lived in the old Hotel Vancouver with other veterans while he took a course as a sheet metal mechanic. After completing the course he opened his own auto body shop on 12th Ave in Vancouver. In 1951 he went to work for Canadian Pacific Airlines, retiring from there in 1982. He and his wife raised four children while living in Richmond, BC.
